Evan was getting frustrated while getting his boots on. I asked if everything was okay. Evan said, "I am having issues, Mom".
I asked Evan why he was getting upset and his response was, "There is a storm in my brain. And when it rains it makes me upset. But when the sun comes back out I will be happy again."
I forgot to pack Evan's lunch for school and I apologized to him. His answer, "I am not angry at you, Mom, but I am disappointed in you. Next time you need to try to do better, okay?"
People are always asking Evan "Where did you get your beautiful blue eyes from?". Evan's favorite response is "At the Blue Eye Store".
Out of the blue one day, Evan asked, "Why did you name me Evan? I wanted to be named Junior. You should have known that." (He asked to be called Junior for the next 2 days.)
Evan was talking about a goal he made at a recent soccer game and said "I smoked it! I thought the grass was gonna catch fire! I'm serious. I am that fast!".
While playing at the park, I called Evan over to talk to him about including a younger playmate and how he feels when older kids don't want him to play with them. About 30 seconds into the discussion, Evan informs me in a very matter-of-fact way, "Mom, I don't have time for this". (How precious... )
When a 3 year old runs into your room (during what is supposed to be his nap/rest time) wearing water goggles, a firefighter hat, water shoes and dripping wet PJs... be afraid, very afraid. And consider investing in a wet/dry vacuum! My sweet child's only words of warning were "Mommy, I have a problem". Fearing the worst I made my way to Evan's bathroom and seeing my own reflection on the floor, I then realized what he meant by problem. His bathroom now resembled Lake Michigan! Everywhere you looked there was standing water. The walls still had small trails of water cascading down them. And being the sweet child that he is, Evan had even attempted to soak up his 'problem' with some of our finest bath linens from the linen closet.
So as I began the process of drying out Lake Michigan, I repeated these words to myself: "These are special times... These are special times". I also realized that it is impossible to get mad at my child when he is wearing water goggles : ) Do you think he knows this??? : )
